Chimpanzee tracking is an ordinary activity which is part of many safaris organized and sometime you might miss seeing the chimpanzees unlike the chimpanzee habituation process where you will get the entire day with the wild chimpanzee on the forest floor.

With approximately 5000 chimpanzees in Uganda, Kibale forest is home to about 2000 chimpanzees. While most tourist don’t know that they have a choice between just tracking the chimpanzees for a 3 hours and chimpanzee habituation where they get to spend the entire day among them. Visiting the Kibale forest where these chimpanzees are we will make sure you take part in the chimpanzee habituation experience which most of clients opt for. The process beings with an early morning presence at the park starting point with your packed lunch, water. You will then join the team of expert guides entering the forest in the wee hours of the morning. Your guide will lead you to starting point where chimpanzees built their nests the previous night. As the chimpanzee raise for the day you will be with them as you follow their daily routine of feeding, patrol, hunting, playing and resting.

Chimpanzee habituation will offer 90% to visitors on the experience the chances to see the chimpanzee up close. You will get a chance to take clear shots with your camera as they show off their agility of movement. The chimpanzee habituation ends when the chimpanzee will choose a site to nest for the next day.

WHEN IS IT BEST?

Chimpanzee habituation experience is best in the months of March, April, May and November, when there is less tourist congestion. In a small group (a ranger plus a maximum of four people), you get much closer to the chimpanzees as opposed to chimpanzee tracking in larger groups. The habituation experience costs $220 (sh572,000) for foreign non-residents, $150 (sh390,000) for foreign residents and $70 (sh182,000) for East Africans.
