Think Bwindi forest, think gorillas. The alarmingly named Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a genuine slice of mountain rain-forest – tangled, damp, muddy on the one hand, but alive with birds and butterflies on the other. And of course it’s one of Africa’s best places to go gorilla trekking – visitors have a 90% chance of seeing mountain gorillas on an organised trek in Bwindi forest. Apart from gorilla tracking in Bwindi forest, there are a numerous activities among others hikes and trails within the Bwindi forest national park, all accompanied by an experienced guide. It’s a great way to fill time while you wait for your prearranged date with the gorillas and to learn about the other animals, birds, butterflies, trees and plants.

Day 1: Travel to Bwindi forest for gorilla trekking safari

Welcomed by your expert tour leader who will provide knowledge and assistance throughout your 4 day gorilla tour to Uganda. Your journey takes you through the beautiful terraced hills to the forested slopes of western Uganda to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (by road 543 km from Kampala). The long journey through the rapidly changing landscape takes you to Silverback Lodge, which faces the canopy of the towering trees on the hills of the surrounding forest. Depending on when you arrive, there maybe time before dinner to explore the and visit the local village Overnight: Silverback Lodge (L, D)

Day 2: Uganda gorilla tracking day

After enjoying an early breakfast (6:30AM – 7:30AM), you set off gorilla tracking first you attend a briefing on how to conduct your self in the presence of the gentle mountain gorillas. Thereafter, depending on the gorilla group you are tracking, a short drive to the start point. Trekking through the steep, densely forested hills and then finally coming across the gorillas feeding in the vegetation is an experience everyone in this world should take to appreciate nature as we state in our slogan “LOVE FOR NATURE”. Tracking in the Bwindi forest requires a level of fitness so before coming out to visit please involve your self in daily evening power walking, jogging, running of some sort gorilla tracking can often take most of the day. Alternatively there are other activities and excursions on offer in and around the national park: Take a guided walk in the bwindi forest, home to several endemic bird species, clouds of butterflies and rare plant life. This walk offers excellent photographic opportunities and the knowledgeable guide will provide a great insight into this globally important habitat. Walk through the local village, and learn about community projects, such as the Amagara project that assists local farmers and their communities, and Bwindi Community Hospital which started as a health clinic under a tree and now provides vital medical and educational services to over 60,000 people. Discover the traditions of the Batwa Pygmies, and learn about the native tribal inhabitants of the forest. The indigenous people of Bwindi forest, though no longer resident in the forest, still practice many of their traditional hunter-gatherer skills. Overnight: Silverback Lodge (B, L, D)

Day 3: Travel back to Kampala

Either go gorilla tracking again – additional permits required, subject to availability- or opt for one of the other, gentler but equally rewarding alternatives available (see above). or Your safari ends with your journey back to Kampala. Before transferring to the airport. Return to your hotel or transfer to the airport in time for your return flight.
